Today (23 October 2017), at the Main Press Center
for the Royal Cremation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Joint
Administration Center for the Royal Cremation of His Majesty King Bhumibol
Adulyadej has organized a press briefing on the Overall Final Rehearsal for the
Procession of Honor for the Royal Cremation Ceremony on 26 October 2017, as
well as practical guidelines for persons attending the ceremony.
Pol. Gen. Dejnarong Suthicharnbancha, Deputy
Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, spoke about screening points; the
most crowded is likely to be at the statue of Mother Earth Squeezing Water from
Her Hair. In addition, he said that the public has faithfully followed the
guidelines during the rehearsals, and he asked for continued cooperation from
people during the ceremony.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Wittaya Prayongpan, Acting Advisor on
Special Construction of the Royal Thai Police, said that the police have
prepared everything for the public’s safety, along with having detectives
operating in the ceremony.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Jirasan Kaewsaeng-ek, Deputy
Commander of the Metropolitan Police, spoke about road closures, which consists
of three levels; from 20 October 2017, the roads were closed at level 1, and
stepped up to level 2 on 22 October. At level 3, 42 routes will be closed on 26
October. He advised people to use public transportation rather than their own
vehicles, as there will not be open car parks around the ceremony area.
Mr. Pornpitak Maensiri, PRD Senior Specialist for
Public Relations, said that there would be more than 50 PR officials to
recommend the practical guidelines for the public on showing respect to His
Majesty the King and members of the Royal Family in an appropriate and
coordinated manner. Members of the general public are not permitted to bring DSLR
cameras or “selfie sticks.” Frequently asked questions from the 1441 hotline have
been collected and launched into the Line ID official: @hotline1441, which can
be searched by using keywords to find the answer.
Mr. Kengkaj Chongcharoen, from
the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), reconfirmed the readiness of
public services. For example, there will be 113 drinks and food units, more
than 200 mobile toilets, 164 free accommodations for mourners, CCTV
cameras around the ceremonial ground services, and
large LED televisions installed for viewing the live broadcasts of the ceremony
at Sanam Luang.
Dr. Narong Apikulwanit, Deputy Director-General of the
Department of Medical Services, said that there will be replicas of the Royal Crematorium
across the country and 21 units in Bangkok outside the ceremonial ground. Also,
medical service units as well as first-aid services
will be provided to the general public at Sanam Luang and at each of the replica
crematoriums. In addition, it is advised that those with illnesses, the elderly,
and children should carry a name tag and any necessary medicine.
